ASD/DD Summer Learning Program
Posted on 03/08/2024

Good morning

Learning Support Services has shared the following message: The OCDSB is once again offering the Autism (ASD) / Developmental Disabilities (DD) Summer Learning Program to be held at Crystal Bay Centre, Clifford Bowey Public School, and Roberta Bondar Public School. The program will run from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm from Wednesday, July 3rd to Thursday July 25th,  2024.

We have moved to an online application process which can be accessed via this link, ASD/DD Summer Learning Program Application   If you would like your child to be considered for the Summer Learning Program, please complete the application package by Thursday, April 4, 2024

New this year, applications completed by the deadline will be considered equally based on eligibility, criteria, and class configuration. Applications received after the deadline will automatically be placed on the waitlist and considered as space is available.

Please note the guidelines for participation are based on available support for students during the summer, and not all students in ASD and DD classes are eligible to attend.

It is also important to note that the administration of the Summer Learning Program is staffed through a central process; The home school Principal is not involved in the administration of the Summer Learning Program. Similarly, the teachers and educational assistants are not the same educational team as the school year.

Please review the eligibility criteria carefully:

Criteria for Summer Learning Program Admission:

  • Students currently enrolled in an ASD or a DD Specialized Program Class

  • Space is limited, so students must be able to attend the entire 17 days of the program, full time

  • Full-time students must be able to manage transportation to and from the program with other students in the vehicle. Individual school transportation is not available

Students who are not eligible for the Summer Learning Program:

  • Students who will graduate from school in June 2024

  • Students who have Behaviour Management Plans (i.e., high safety needs)

  • Students who require intensive 1 to 1 support throughout the day and struggle with managing transitions and/or a classroom setting

All applications will be reviewed by both your classroom teacher and your home school Principal to assist in determining if your child can be safely accommodated within the structures available during the Summer Learning Program.

For questions regarding eligibility please contact your Principal, [Kathryn Ferguson at 613 828-5376 or [email protected]].

Regards,

Kathryn
