Dear Caregivers,
The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) has a strong commitment to improving
equity of access and opportunity for all students. We acknowledge the importance of monitoring
and addressing disparities in learning outcomes.
The OCDSB will be conducting a student survey from April 11th to May 10th, 2024. The survey
will collect data for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The survey will collect:
● Demographic information about aspects of identity including race, gender identity,
ethnicity, language, religion, spiritual affiliation or creed, and disabilities; and
● Perceptions [and inferences] of school climate including sense of belonging, relationships with others,engagement, school safety, bullying, discrimination, and well-being.
The survey is voluntary and confidential. The survey will be completed by caregivers of students
in Kindergarten through Grade 6 (one survey per child). Participation is voluntary. Caregivers of students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 who do NOT want to participate may refrain from completing the survey. Students in grades 7 to 12 will complete the survey during class time. Note, for students enrolled at Crystal Bay and Clifford Bowey schools, parents will be asked to complete the survey on their child’s behalf. A paper copy is available for caregivers only upon request.
This information will allow us to better design programs and supports to address issues including bullying, mental health and student achievement. It will also help inform decisions, guide school improvement planning, and inform educator practices aimed at reducing inequities in student experiences and outcomes.
